Clinics & Services
Child Health Surveillance
We recommend full immunisation for all pre-school children.
The following professionals carry out developmental health checks jointly: Dr Liddell, Dr Horne, Dr Ellis and the Health Visitor Team.
Dr Liddell, Dr Horne or Dr Ellis hold the clinic for all registered children in the Practice at Cockenzie Health Centre, fortnightly, on a Tuesday morning during the hours of 10.00am and 12 noon. For an appointment please contact your Health Visitor on 01875 818589.
The Health Visitors see children by appointment on a Thursday - morning and afternoon for their childhood immunisation course to be performed. Appointments are sent from Child Health for these clinics.
If you are unable to attend the appointment which is sent to you, please telephone the HEALTH VISITORS ON 01875 818589, to arrange a more suitable appointment time.
Adult Vaccinations and Immunisations
If vaccinations are required for other reasons you should make an appointment with the Practice Nurse to discuss this. We do keep a stock of vaccinations in the treatment room but some vaccinations need to be given on prescription and therefore need to be given at a future appointment.
The doctor or the practice nurse carries out minor surgery procedures. Prior consultation with the doctor is required in certain circumstances before treatment is started. Some treatments, can be started by the Practice Nurse without prior consultation with the Doctor
All women aged 25 years to 64 years inclusive are offered a cervical smear test, which is carried out by the Practice Nurse, every three years up to the age of 49 and every 5 years from 50 - 64 years of age or as recommended by the Laboratory. For an appointment please telephone the Appointments Only Telephone Number - 0300 790 6244.
A comprehensive service is available within normal surgery times but the fitting of caps and insertion of Implanon is done by special arrangement. Please call reception for an appointment. Fitting of coils (IUD’s) are done at Family Planning & Well Woman Clinics as listed below:
Chalmers Sexual Health Clinic, Lauriston Place, Edinburgh - telephone number 0131 536 1070.
Patients over the age of 75
If a patient is over 75 years and has not attended one of the doctors or one of the nurses in the last 3 years they should arrange an appointment to come and be seen for a routine check.
If you are housebound and unable to go OUT and you have not been seen for 3 years, then a request for either a doctor or a district nurse/health visitor to call should be made to reception.
